Confirmation Retreat
March 27-28
Alta Mons
Brochure will be available in 2009
This Friday/Saturday retreat is designed for any youth going through the confirmation experience this year.
The Roanoke District United Methodist Confirmation Retreat is scheduled for March 27-28. Registration begins at 6:00pm Friday and the weekend concludes Saturday with worship at Crockett Springs UMC. We anticipate to be done about 2:00pm.
We will house the confirmands in the retreat center and Pearman house. Placement is based on the number ration of boys to girls and adults to youth. We will try to honor your requests on a first come first serve basis. We request one adult per six youth. We ask that all adults assist in the weekend by leading their group on the journey to the falls or taking a small role as one of the characters we meet along the journey.
Our Great Adventure is based on the journey Jesus may have traveled. Your confirmands will have the opportunity to hear about many of the people Jesus encountered as we come to several “stations” in our journey. We begin with Jesus calling us to follow as we receive walking sticks to use throughout our journey. We meet Mary along the way as she holds Jesus after his birth. As we walk through the fields, John Wesley meets us and tells us of his journeys. The creation story is paraphrased as we gather by the creek. John the Baptist and Jesus are met along the way as Baptism is discussed (Luke 3:7-15 and Matthew 3:13-17). We will encounter temptation (Matthew 4:1-11), meet the disciples (Matthew 4: 18-22), hear from Zachaaeus (Luke 19:1-10), experience miracles and the homeless (Matthew 12: 13-21, John 2:12, and Matthew 25:34-45). We will discuss prayer (Matthew 6:5-15), talk of “The Great Commandment” (Matthew 22:34-40), travel the road to Damascus (Acts 9:1) and end with a closing worship (Matthew 28:16).
In order to make this weekend successful, we ask that each church please help us find adults/older teens to play characters on our journey. We ask that you contact us with whom from your church can help with this crucial aspect of the weekend.
Additional information and costs will be available early in 2009. For budgeting purposes - last years retreat cost was $29
